I'm with you... until it comes to forcing the equality of economic outcome, progressive taxation, and/or income redistribution.

I believe we need to have equality of opportunity.
I believe we are to help those who have been treated unjustly (not everyone who is considered "poor" in the current context fits in this category).

Once again my only issue is the use of "politically charged" language in reference to our Christian responsibilities.

My aversion would be in seeking "political solutions" to these issues in step with the aforesaid "political language".

"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former." Matthew 23:23

I wonder if most churches don't fall into the "You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former" category...just a thought.

Love you too bro.

I know we both have the same position on helping those in need.
I just get freaked when I see some blending Marxism into Christianity.
I believe with all my heart Marxism is evil and is to blame for hundreds of millions of deaths.
As far as "christians must stand up for justice and equality. it is what God requires." what do you mean? I understand grace. I know everything I have is a gift from God. I know I should not hold to tightly to it and should be willing to share. I see the teachings of the New Testament to be more "personal responsibility" and "involvement in the lives of others" than "Social Activism".

Love ya man

It would be nice to know what they were thinking. Is it meant to bring about change, or just uncomfortable silence and a nervous chuckle? Meh, maybe it's a mockery of itself: a jab at shallowness just for entertainment. Hopefully they used this as a teaching tool to inspire meaningfulness.

@Jim

i get where you are coming from. and, i acknowledge that the term "social justice" is a weighted term and it carries a lot of baggage.

for me, the government is not the issue. (you know that about me) it's the church. christians must stand up for justice and equality. it is what God requires.

i think too many well intentioned christians have traded the message of Jesus for consumerism, materialism and financial security. we hide behind our stuff claiming we earned it ignoring Jesus call to follow him no matter the cost. all the while, our leaders are afraid of being a socialist, communist or liberal so the ignore what the bible says about the poor.

maybe it is semantics, but where Glenn Beck is leading, i cannot follow.

people don't need more excuses for not helping those in need; they seem to find them with no problem on their own.

I will have to admit that I find this disturbing. Let me clarify that I am for helping those who need help, but this hole "social justice" thing scares me.
There are those who are trying to blend Marxist ideology with Christianity. I believe there are well intentioned Christians who are buying it. Yes, help those who are hurting and hungry. YOU do it because you love them. YOU do it because Jesus loves them. This whole "social justice" thing end with a cry for the government to equal everything out. I'm sorry, it is not unjust that I have things. I have worked for them. I am also willing to share what I have.
I may just be getting upset over semantics, but the term "social justice" has a history, and it is one that filled with evil. Russia, Germany, Cuba, etc... It always happens the same way.

Jesus did his best work among the sinners and needy of his time, where ever he found them. He did not try to herd them somewhere for the sake of safety. The Mayor was on the radio this morning. As usual, the rhetoric was that it was for the homeless folks own good. The fact that most of what he said sounded good does not make it right. The way I understand it these rules will end up hurting these folks by making it more trouble than many organizations will bother with to help them. We can no longer just take a morning, make some meals and give them away. We will have to buy permits (assuming the city will approve). The expense and time consumption will stop most groups.

More to the point, Richard yes you are a criminal.

Do they think homeless will come from cities far and wide to cash in on the homeless assistance? (Anyone see that Southpark? "Change...change...")

Anyway, I don't think the gov't should make it easier, necessarily, but I def don't think they should interfere.

I'd try to jump through the hoops. Ideally, I'd "break the law" if it meant helping someone, although I may consider legal routes to help. Creativity may be required.

I think this is a perfect opportunity to break the law. If you're fined or whatever, react in a way that unmasks the powers. Use it as a platform to point out the oppressive nature of the law. (This may, of course, require not paying the fine.) I imagine your impudence will be ignored, but if it's not, you'll need a game plan. Maybe you don't even have to wait for the new law to be enforced. Maybe you could right an article and submit it to the local paper. You may not gain the support of all the locals (some would prefer the legislation if it means "cleaner" streets, thank you very much), but you would be exposing injustice for all to see.
