Brandt Russo has kept himself busy in the weeks following his successful awareness campaign for the poor and starving in Africa. Here's a peek at what he's been busying himself with these days:

"The church, which places itself at a distance to the distress and downtrodden just jumping in and helping to fix things..."
I think this is the big deal. It's always easier to react to tragedy then to take genuine interest in other people. Resources can be great, but sometimes I think they distract from or replace what the Church should be doing in the first place. Of course, many distance themselves from relationships within a congregation, so that becomes the status quo.

This is why it's way better (and churches are getting it now) to just start over. Again though, we are just rebranding the church like we are a soft drink company or a shampoo manufacturer. Basically, how can I make the same thing look "cooler". That my friends is pretty darn lame, no offense to the writers of the book Chuck is reading but the idea of a family mission statement seems kind of lame too.

@Paul, thanks for checking out epicdialogue. in regard to a prefered translation, i typically use a few (since they all have their pros and cons). the esv and nasb are my go to translations, but i don't use with exclusively.

Hi - great site you have here. I love reading sites about religion - they are so informative. Thank you for having this one. The internet can be a real blessing, even though some people don't realize that and use it improperly. I am always interested in reading online about the Bible and this site is very thought-provoking. I don't have time to read all of the articles here right now, I found this site when looking for something else on Google, but I've bookmarked your homepage and will visit again soon to see the latest news. What is your preferred translation of the Bible? I think they are all good, don't really have a preferred one myself. I have a site with Biblical passages on it. Please bookmark it - it as at www.GotTB.com. I just redesigned the site with a new look and feel, please let me know what you think of the new layout. Have a good week. God's Peace!

Like you said, the actions and stated values must match. The reason I think I haven't seen much buy-in is that there is more focus on pushing the mission statement externally rather than developing the mission within the community itself. I've heard too many recitations of purpose statements by people that I know don't care about what they had to say. Best analogy that comes off the top of my head is that when I go to Chick-fil-a, I know what I'm getting: a great chicken sandwich, waffle fries, and it's their pleasure to give it to me. The analogy breaks down because it's a business, but I sure feel like part of the organization, and I'll speak highly of them. I think taking the time to build that foundation uncompromisingly is well worth it. It's difficult to re-brand.

So, when religion meets Scoopville, the religious people form their own system and call it "Godscoopville." Amirite?
